Icon Design is a studio furniture workshop in Rochester, New York. Since 1998, every piece has been designed and built at the same bench — sculptural furniture made to order, made to last, and stamped on the underside.
What we make, and how.
We work in the American studio furniture tradition: small runs and one-offs, built by hand with artistic intent. Two collections anchor the catalog — the Legacy Collection, sculptural pods in seven hand-mixed lacquers, and the Fitzhugh Karol Collection, solid wood sculpted by Fitzhugh Karol — alongside custom commissions developed piece by piece with clients and designers.
Everything is made in our Rochester workshop — a city with a deep bench of furniture-making history, which we trace in Rochester Design Heritage. Joinery, carving, and finishing happen in-house; lead times are honest; and every piece leaves the shop built to be repaired, refinished, and passed down.
